On Sunday, May 7th I ventured out to the Shops at Park Lane for the Mazda CX-5 Ride and Drive. The CX-5 has been redesigned for 2017. The sleek design especially of the design the hood that made the car look wider and bigger really catches the eye. I was interested in driving the vehicle again due to my experience at the DFW AutoShow, and I was curious to see how it compares to my Honda CR-V. This experience was a lot better! I was able to drive the blue CX-5 with Donald (the Mazda rep) We drove for about a block or so around the Shops at Park Lane. Donald did a great job of pointing out the features of the car and answered all my car questions. The features I think that set the CX-5 apart from the CR-V are the heads up display and the leather seats. The Active Driving Display or heads up display gives the speed of the vehicle along with vehicle stats right on the windshield, so that the drive does not have to divert his/her eyes from the road. The leather seats are double stitched and look amazing. This model even had leather on the dashboard. I wonder how or if the look of the leather on the dash will change over time and how to best care for it. The vehicle handles well but I did not have the opportunity to take it on the highway. Perhaps I’ll visit a Mazda dealer to see how the car handles on the highway. Although the CX-5 does have Lane Keep Assist, there is no blind spot camera. I really like the blind spot camera that is available on my 2015 CR-V. There is a lot of storage space in the vehicle. I saw a woman lie down in the trunk area of the CX-5. So there is plenty of space for luggage, gear, groceries, and etc. Overall I was impressed with the new 2017 CX-5. (Although I love the CR-V) If you are looking for a mid sized SUV it is worthy of consideration.
The satellite and cable companies will most certainly do any and everything to get and keep your business! In March, I was frustrated with AT&T and Directv (which is now owned by AT&T). For a time, I was paying $100 for phone and internet services (including taxes), and I was paying over $100 (including taxes) for the Directv Xtra Choice package. Way too expensive, and I needed to cut costs! I was not able to bundle the services, so I opted to switch to Spectrum cable where I could get phone, internet, and cable TV for about $136. When I called Directv on March 6th, they said that they would send me the shipping labels to send their equipment back. Well, a month goes by and the labels never arrived! Was that part of the T. V. War plan? I called Directv on April 4th to inquire about the labels, and they made me an offer to return that I could not refuse! They offered me TV, Phone, and Internet service for about $105.00 plus tax. To top it off, I would get the termination of contract fee waived, the 2017 season of the NFL Sunday Ticket for free, a $200 Visa gift card, and $25 off my AT&T wireless service. One thing I liked about Directv was the whole home DVR service where I could access recordings on my DVR from any receiver. That is not available with Spectrum. I must be in the midst of a T. V. War, and I wonder what Spectrum will say in return. Do you know of a great way to save on T.V. Phone, Internet, and other utilities? Comment below or Tweet it to me @Adanslevent on Twitter. I’m always looking for ways to save!
Wow! The DFW AutoShow is as big as Texas! There are more brands represented at the 2017 show, and all sizes and prices points are represented . There is so much information to cover, I considered doing more than one post! Let’s start with Hyundai. They have a large booth in the showroom featuring their full line of sedans, hatchbacks, crossovers/SUVs and Hybrid Vehicles. Speaking of Hybrids the New 2017 Hyundai Ioniq is center stage in the booth. The Ioniq is equipped with safety features like lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and automatic emergency breaking with pedestrian detection. Many technology features are available to help you stay connected on the go. Apple Play and Android Auto make your apps available on the touchscreen on the dash of the car. Wireless charging is also available to help keep your device powered up and ready to go. If your looking for a sedan, the Iconq is definitely worth serious consideration.
Illustrating Hyundai’s sponsorship of the NFL, you will find the NFL themed Hyundai Santa Fe complete with a tailgate package featuring a cooler and grill. Check out my video of the tailgate package on Instagram. You can enter to win the tailgate package in the Hyundai booth at the DFW Autoshow! Other giveaways include a $500 gift card to Best Buy. Be sure to also participate in the Hyundai Swag game featuring the Hyundai Tucson.
At the Hyundai booth, I learned that the Genesis vehicles have spun off into its own brand. Genesis is making a name for itself in the luxury vehicle market in the U. S., and internationally as well. I have even seen a picture of a Genesis in Accra, Ghana (West Africa)! The Genesis ownership experience sets it self apart from competitors like Mercedes Benz and BMW! Genesis offers several services that are complementary such as complementary maintenance, and complementary valet service for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Sirius Traffic and Travel Link, Connected Services (like remote start), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, and Navigation Map Care Annual Map Updates are also complementary for 3 years. I am not aware of an ownership experience like this from any other major luxury vehicle automaker! Let’s talk about the Genesis G80. It is a sleek mid size luxury sedan. The G80 includes some of the same features as the G90 like the full color heads up display. It also features an 9.2″ HD display. The G80 is complete with a plethora of safety features like a 9 Airbag system, and Advanced High strength steel. I would put it in the same class as a Lexus GS 350. However, the G80 starts at $41, 400, where as the Lexus GS 350 starts at $50, 695. Hence the G80 is luxury at a value!
The 2017 Genesis G 90
The 2017 G90 is the top of the line full size sedan from Genesis. It is complete with every feature you can imagine and then some! Some stand outs in the drivers seat are the full color heads up display, and multiple angle cameras on the center console. The heads up feature gives the driver information without having to divert view off the road such as speed, time, and etc. The multi angle camera is a valuable safety feature that allows the driver to see around the vehicle using the 12.3″ HD Touchscreen display. Another impressive feature of the G90 that I’ve not seen in other vehicles is a rear passenger cabin complete with power seat controls, audio controls, and heated and cooling ventilation! The quality of the leather throughout the interior is impeccable. See more of the Genesis G90 on my Instagram, and Twitter pages, search for the handle @adanslevent on both platforms. Be sure to enter to win a trip to Maui, and 3 pieces of Genesis Luggage by Tumi when you visit the Genesis booth!
Toyota has a strong presence at the auto show as it plans to make its headquarters in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. At the 2017 DFW Autoshow we see the Texas debut of the all new 2018 Toyota Camry, the best selling car in America for the last 15 years. The new body style, new logo at the front, and ergonomic seat design in the interior make it sure to be a contender for best the best selling car in America well into the future. As a former Camry owner, I can say that the Toyota Camry is the perfect size sedan , has plenty of trunk space, and low maintenance costs. I can also say that Toyota vehicles are built to last! I purchased my 2006 Camry brand new and drove it for 10 years! The 2018 Toyota Camry is set to arrive at dealerships in August. Next month expect to see the new crossover SUV, the 2018 Toyota CH-R at dealerships.
It looks to be the perfect compact crossover SUV. It will be available in an XLE and XLE Premium models. Available specs on the XLE premium include a Smart Key with Push Button Start, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
At Mazda, we learned about the new 2017 MX-5 Miata RF. The new Miata was launched last fall and made available to select customers on pre-order. 500 customers placed deposits. When it was made available for order to the general public it sold out in 13 hours! That is a testament to the popularity of the Miata! Check my twitter feed for video of the folding top on the Miata MX-5 RF
I had the opportunity to test drive the CX-9. Sales for the CX models are up 17 % year to date. The CX-9 is quite spacious and is features a heads up display making it fit to compete with luxury SUVs. The only negative aspect of the test drive would be the Mazda rep. He asked if I had a car because I was so cautious driving it out of the lot… I think I’ll visit the dealership for a better test drive experience, and I plan to test drive the CX-5 which is pictured below.
Another SUV that I would love to test drive is the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. It is a seven seater SUV comparable to the Audi 2017 Q7. The Atlas is made here in the USA at the VW Plant located in Chattanooga, TN. This is the first VW vehicle designed and produced in the U.S. for sale in the U. S. market. Volkswagen plans to develop and produce more cars just for the American consumer. I am curious to see what VW has in store in the future!
There is so much more to see and experience at the 2017 DFW AutoShow. Check out my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages for more coverage and go to the Auto Show this weekend at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center through March 26th!
I am gearing up to cover the 2017 DFW AutoShow next week! Last year we saw the latest and greatest from brands such as Mazda, Toyota, Kia, Nissan, Chevrolet, and Ford. Looking forward to visiting the Toyota booth as the company has moved its headquarters to North Texas, and also has a manufacturing plant in San Antonio. Last year Mazda brought the new CX-9 to the DFW AutoShow. I was envious of this car because I recently purchased a Honda CR-V. However, by comparison the CX-9 was spacious, with lux features, like the leather seats, and sleek body design. I am curious to see the changes to the CX-9 for the upcoming model year. Outside of the convention center I had the opportunity to test drive the Kia Sportage and the Toyota Rav4. This year I would love to test drive some new models especially the new 2017 Honda CR-V. Stay tuned for coverage of the auto show and be sure to enter the She Buys Cars DFW AutoShow Giveaway for a chance to win free tickets to the DFW AutoShow and a grand prize of tickets and a $150 gift card !
